Cambridge, MA, June 24, 2015 – From baking for patients with cancer to cleaning up waterways and community centers, more than 400 Takeda employees in Massachusetts, including hundreds of employees from the Takeda Oncology Business Unit, left their labs and offices on Thursday, June 18, to participate in the company’s 17th Annual Community Service Day.

Takeda believes good citizenship starts locally and is committed to being good corporate citizens by bettering the communities in which its employees live and work. This year, participants worked in employee groups throughout the greater Boston region to help clean and maintain community public spaces and provide other needed services to select non-profit organizations.

“Each year I look forward to this day when Takeda contributes to the well-being of the community where we work,” said Jess Gangi, Takeda employee. “It’s an opportunity to directly connect with a number of dedicated organizations and support their local efforts.”

Volunteer projects included organizing research equipment to develop STEM education and underfunded labs around the world, baking for patients with cancer, various landscaping projects, general clean-up of community centers, food preparation for various organizations and preparation for a community partner’s annual fundraising event.

We are inspired and honored to take part in efforts that make a positive impact in our community and to partner with so many incredible local organizations.”

Takeda’s Community Service Day in Massachusetts is part of the company’s Living Through Giving program which is an integral component of Corporate Social Responsibility at Takeda. The Living Through Giving program was started in 1997 as a grassroots movement by a group of employees who were inspired to give back to the local community. Today, Living Through Giving has grown to include partnerships with more than 20 non-profit agencies throughout the year to promote awareness and make a difference. Community Service Day provides hundreds of company volunteers the opportunity to spend over 2,000 cumulative volunteer hours in support of local non-profit organizations. Additionally, Takeda employees may take up to two additional days of paid time-off from work each year to volunteer with non-profit organizations.
